Stay in Siem Reap...

Looking for an extended teaching experience? Savong's School offers you the opportunity to teach over short stays, or over long-term stays of several weeks. This is an opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the culture and lifestyle of locals.

You can stay in Siem Reap where even basic Guest Houses offer a reasonable level of accommodation, and put you within a few minutes of Siem Reap's bustling nightlife scene. Accommodation in town ranges from around $US10 per night (no air-con) right up to the platinum-level spa resort hotels that pamper you each night for the about the same as a farmer's annual income.

Our biased Siem Reap suggestion is to stay at Sor Phoun Villa. Rates go from $US10 - $25 for their premium room which is very comfortable. Some of the daily rate is put straight back into Savong's School. This places has taken over from DMS Angkor Villa (next door) and has maintained a good relationship with the school.

..or stay at the school

For a more total immersion experience, the school also invites serious volunteers to consider staying at the school. There's accommodation space here (not big) and the location, 25 minutes out of Siem Reap by motorbike, puts you into the countryside. Next to the school are farms. 15 minutes away by bicycle is a village with a market for basic supplies. 15 minutes in another direction is a Buddhist monastery and ancient Angkor ruins.

Staying at the school is an option won't suit everyone, but the option is here - and there are few better ways to get to know a culture without incurring accommodation costs.
The students are like students everywhere - full of laughs, sometimes mischievous...but also motivated. All students at Savong's School are there voluntarily. The boys below were a joy to teach but as soon as the camera came out...play time!!
