The wider challenge is to help develop improved teaching material. Many texts are too Western in content (Meet Jenny she uses her microwave!) and one legacy of Pol Pot is the lack of literature in Khmer that could be used as the basis for translations. If you have a teaching background, then you might consider assisting in the form of developing lesson plans.
Ever since building began in mid 2005 (photo) Savong is keen to make the school as self-sufficient as possible in the long-term. Steps he's taking include partnership in a Siem Reap Guest House (D&D Angkor Villa) which provides a small revenue stream but also a conduit for volunteer teachers and more potential supporters. We're also developing brochures inviting other tourists at other Guest Houses to try the teaching experience, for a donation of $US25. These things are time consuming for Savong and his wife Aneed, but so far they've been beneficial for the students who enjoy meeting foreigners and trying their English.
