Who Are We?
  • New Zealanders. We each run a small business.
  • We're part of a wider network of supporters.

We invite you to join us as supporters of Savong's School. Who are we? My name is Duncan Stuart and I'm a market researcher. I run my own small consultancy Kudos. Together with my partner Susanna, a financial adviser, we have actively supported Savong's School since 2004.

That's us in the photo; we've been together for more than 25 years. We met at the University of Waikato in the 1970s, and it was having a Cambodian acquaintance there, Chan Chay, that led me ultimately to go to Cambodia in 2004. It was a journey that really led to good things. Meeting Chay again was an important moment; meeting Savong proved life-changing.

Susanna and I are busy people. She runs her own business and serves as Director of finance for the board of Surf Life Saving Nothern Region, here in New Zealand , while I clock up too many hours each day working on market research. Savong's School is my main outside interest, though I'm currently putting together research on a sociology book.

And credit where it is most due. Savong's School is the result of Svay Savong having the vision and audacity to

have a big dream, and for his courage in approaching strangers to tell his story. What was I doing at age 24? I really admire the guy. My admiration also goes out to the two young Japanese supporters who provided a lot of encouragement by example: Yoshikazu and Makoto. We live in an internet age, and big things are possible through personal contact.
